How TagBuilder Works

TagBuilder makes custom engraved identification for industrial equipment: nameplates, valve and pipe tags, push-button legend plates, arc flash labels, E-STOP and lockout labels. Design it online and see the proof on screen, or email a list and get a quote. No minimums. Every piece is engraved in-house in Waterford, Pennsylvania.

What we make

  • Equipment nameplates and panel labels — control panel legends, disconnect and breaker IDs, motor and machine nameplates, rating plates, asset tags. Any size, any text, optional holes or adhesive back.
  • Valve and pipe tags — round or rectangular, numbered or named, color-coded by service (water, steam, gas, fire, HVAC), with a chain hole or chain. Sequential numbering runs are routine.
  • Legend plates and push-button labels — 22 mm and 30 mm ring tags for pilot devices (START / STOP, HAND / OFF / AUTO, LOCAL / REMOTE and similar), sized to fit common pushbutton families.
  • Arc flash / NFPA 70E labels — engraved with incident energy, arc flash boundary, working distance, PPE category, and equipment ID from your study. Engraved, not printed, so the data does not fade or peel.
  • E-STOP labels — yellow-and-red emergency stop legends for 22 mm and 30 mm operators, plus larger E-STOP plates for enclosures.
  • Lockout and de-energize labels — "DE-ENERGIZE BEFORE WORK", "LOCK OUT BEFORE SERVICING", isolation point IDs and similar safety legends.
  • Cable and conduit markers — engraved plates for cable trays, conduit runs, and feeder identification, quoted by email.

We do not make parking signs, retail signage, or consumer decor.

Materials

Most work is engraved durable plastic: a two-color sheet where the engraving cuts through the surface to expose the contrasting core, so the lettering is part of the material rather than ink on top. It holds up to oil, coolant, solvents, washdown, and sun, indoors or out. Standard combinations include black on white, white on black, black on yellow, white on red, white on blue, white on green, black on orange, and silver on black, plus additional stock colors shown in the configurator.

Stainless steel or aluminum is available when the job calls for metal — high heat, chemical exposure, or a spec that requires it.

How ordering works

Option 1 — Design it yourself (fastest)

  1. Open the configurator. Pick the tag type, size, colors, and holes or adhesive.
  2. Type your text. The proof updates on screen at real dimensions as you type.
  3. Set the quantity, add to cart, and check out. You receive an order confirmation and a shipping notice with tracking.

Option 2 — Pick from the catalog

The catalog has thousands of ready-made legends (START, STOP, HAND / OFF / AUTO, common valve services, arc flash and lockout warnings) in standard sizes and colors. Search by text, then choose a size and color and add to cart.

Option 3 — Email a list for a quote

Send a spreadsheet, CSV, or a plain list to [email protected] with the text, size, colors, and quantity for each tag. You get a written quote and a PDF proof before anything is made. Approve it and the job runs. This is the normal path for panel shops sending a full schedule of tags.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a minimum order?
No. You can order a single tag or label. Quantity price breaks apply on most catalog items.
How long does an order take?
Standard orders ship within 5 business days; most ship in 2-3. Rush options at checkout: 2-3 day, next-day, and same-day (weekday orders placed before 11:30 AM Eastern).
What does shipping cost?
Shipping is free on orders of $49 or more within the United States. Below that it is a flat $7.95.
What are the tags made of?
Engraved durable plastic in two-color stock (the engraving exposes the contrasting core), rated for indoor and outdoor industrial use and resistant to oil, solvents, and UV. Stainless steel or aluminum is available when a job calls for metal.
How do I see what I am getting before I pay?
The configurator at tagbuilder.net/configurator/ renders a proof on screen as you type, sized to the real dimensions. Catalog items show a rendered preview on the product page. Quoted jobs get a PDF proof by email before anything is made.
Can I send a list instead of designing each tag?
Yes. Email a spreadsheet, CSV, or a list in the body of an email to [email protected] with sizes, colors, and text. You receive a written quote and a proof; approve it and the job runs.
Which colors are available?
Standard two-color combinations include black on white, white on black, black on yellow, white on red, white on blue, white on green, black on orange, and silver on black, plus additional stock colors shown in the configurator.
Do you make NFPA 70E arc flash labels?
Yes. Arc flash labels are engraved with your incident energy, arc flash boundary, working distance, PPE category, and equipment ID from your study results. Engraved text does not fade or peel like printed vinyl.
Can I order the same tags again later?
Yes. Orders are saved to your account, and configurator designs can be saved and reordered. Quote-based jobs are kept on file so a repeat order only needs an email.
